In the process of living through the ups and downs of life, we often get complacent. We’re so distracted by the routine of getting through the day that we forget about our goals, our mission, our dreams. If we don’t pay attention, tomorrow becomes “just another day”.
Even when we’re surrounded by examples of people facing what appear to be insurmountable challenges, we wake up in the morning to “just another day”. We’re not consumed by anything that charges our battery. Sometimes we’re more consumed by consumption, filling our lives with “stuff”, than by living.
I have a tendency to fall into this trap because it’s easy. If you do what you’ve always done, you know what you’re doing next. It’s safe, comfortable, and boring. Don’t settle for that! You’re more important than that. I recently started writing a novel that’s been brewing in my head for way too long. As soon as I started to bring the characters to life, I rediscovered passion and excitement for the gift of life. The story has consumed me. It’s constantly in my head, even in my dreams. All I want to do is write! And surprisingly, as an unexpected consequence, everything else in my life is easier. The passion is over-flowing into everything I do.
My holiday wish for you is that you get out of the box and find something that consumes you, a positive thing, of course. Find something that makes you want to be your best and wrap yourself up in it. You’re worth it!
Merry Christmas!
