Habits make life easy

Most of our behaviors are habit driven. The way we walk, the way we brush our teeth, the way we deal with stress, how much we chew our food, etc… It’s fascinating if you really think about it. It’s also important. Our brains love patterns. Habits free up our brains for other tasks. If we don’t have to think about routine things, we can use that energy to learn more or to be more creative.

Habits are an important part of our success so we need to evaluate them once in a while and make sure they’re helping, not hurting us. If you’ve developed a pattern that’s working against you, change it. Create a better pattern and keep repeating it until it becomes automatic. For example, if you always eat something before you go to bed and you want to change that, brush your teeth earlier and read for twenty minutes instead. You’ll struggle with the change for a few weeks, but if you stick with it, you’ll eventually be proud of yourself for creating a healthier pattern.

Life is easy when your habits work in your favor. Make your life easy.

Longing for yesterday?

Do you ever wish things could be the way they were? Was there a time in your life or a person in your life that made you super happy? Sometimes, even though circumstances have changed, we wish things could be the way they used to be. We know there’s no going back but still, we secretly pine over what we’ve lost. It’s unhealthy and we know it. Still, we wish. We want it, desperately want it.

Feeling like that is like driving down the road using only your rear view mirror. If you let yesterday haunt you, you’ll crash. Instead, we have to focus on today. We have to build a support system around the life we’re living and move forward. When we choose to move forward, doors will open and when doors open, we can find happiness.

So stop longing for yesterday, it only gets in the way of tomorrow.

3 reasons to stop wishing for a high metabolism

So many people wish they could eat as much as they want, whenever they want, without gaining any weight. They’re jealous of people who eat a lot without any apparent penalty. Well, be careful what you wish for. Here are three reasons to stop wishing for a high metabolism:

1. Think of your digestive system as a factory. The harder you make it work, the quicker the parts wear out. If you constantly stress your digestive system, you’re bound to face some health issues in the long run.

2. Our food supply contains pesitcides, additives, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, etc… Our bodies do a great job filtering through the “bad” stuff but the more you eat, the more “bad” stuff your body has to filter through. I wonder how many cancers are the result of environmental problems with our food supply.

3. It’s expensive. Having a high metabolism is like owning a vehicle that gets lousy gas mileage. The money you constantly spend re-fueling could be spent on living instead.

I think people with a slow metabolism are more evolved. The trick is learning how to fuel the impressive slower metabolism machine. Small amounts of high quality food is all it takes. If your metabolism is slow, don’t get caught up in the glutony of your inefficient friends. Instead, take the money and run. You’re the lucky one.
