Do you ever want to run away from everything that needs to get done, from everyone who demands your time? The world seems to chase us at an ever increasing pace. We should try to slow it down from time to time and find a quiet place to find ourselves.
No one expresses this desire better than my poet of a mom:
A QUIET PLACE
Oh, for a little time alone
in a place of peace and quiet!
I want to hear the sound of silence
filling the room.
A darkened room, please, with
muted colors and a comfortable chair,
a place where worry cannot enter,
where the spring uncoils, the yarn unravels.
I’d let me hands rest idle in my lap,
no need to smile, to be polite.
All the need-to-do things
would go undone and
no one would know or care,
a quiet place between the musts and wants,
the push of hurry, hurry.
Let me be the only person in the world
for one hour,
in a place where sound and care are banished,
the urgent sense of time removed.
There tension lifts and peace descends,
no one to ask or answer.
And then I’d say “hello” to me
and ask how I’m doing.
